Trail Food

My trials with nutrition on the trail has evolved since my first significant hike in 2013!! There are a vast number of ideas about what the best types of food are for maximizing your performance, but the bottom line is that everyones metabolism and tolerance for certain types of food is different. After a life of hiking, with long distance hiking thrown in the mix over the past 7 years, Ive been avoiding empty calories, and augment my menu with essential nutrients and healthy fats.

My hike of the Te Araroa across both islands of New Zealand, was the first time I tried stoveless meals.
